Sunday read #1: the Selection series by Kiera Cass

In my 'Where have I been?!'-post from a couple of weeks ago I wrote that I would start to write about other things besides beauty related subjects. I still like beautyproducts a lot but my life revolves around more than beauty alone. I really like to write about things that I enjoy, beauty and non-beauty. So since I love reading, this blogpost is going to be a book review :).

The book series is called 'The Selection' by Kiera Cass and it's a great light read. Even if you're not that big of a bookworm, you really might enjoy this. It's quite girly, but it's still mature enough that it's okay for a 21-year-old like myself, to read it.

The Selection is actually a trilogy, but the third one (which is called 'The One') is going to be published in May 2014. I have read 'The Elite' in April last year, when it just got published, so I've been waiting a loooong time now for the third book. I can't wait!

The Selection is a bit of a mashup between a dystopian fairytale and 'The Bachelor', which might sound a bit strange, but it's not. Set in a future society, in a country called Illea, the main character America Singer comes from a poor family of artists. The society is a bit different then ours, because it's devided in castes, but it's quite well explained in the first few chapters. America's mom pushes her to enter some kind of lottery to become the wife, the next queen, of the crown prince Maxon and she ends up being picked as one of the lucky 35 girls who gets to live in the royal palace for the next few weeks/months.

Between those 35 girls, Prince Maxon has to chose his bride while the entire country is watching 'the selection' on tv. While loads of girls are jealous of America, she actually doesn't want to be in the competition because she has a 'secret boyfriend' at home (that her family doesn't approve of).

It might all sound a bit childish, but it's actually a really fun book. I am totally 'Team Maxon' and I am quite addicted to this bookseries. Also, how gorgeous are those book covers?!

If you'd like to read more information on the book, you can find it on goodreads over here. If you'd like to visit my goodreads page (or add me), click here! Also, please let me know some book recommendations in the comments since I'm always looking for a great book to read! :)

Goodbye 2013, hello 2014!

Looking back on 2013, it was a good year.

I had a stressy start of 2013 with some exams, because our Belgian schoolsystem is just a bit weird, but fortunately, afterwards I went to London with my mom in February (blogpost click here), which is also around the time I started this blog.

The new schoolsemester started right after I got home from London, and I started the semester with a new dorm. New dorm, new people, and after my disastrous previous apartment (which had a rodent problem - IEK! I'm still traumatized) I was so relieved to be in a new, modern dorm with loads of really nice people. During the schoolyear, I still live in that dorm, and I'm having a great time.

The semester flew by, and before I knew it - it was summer. At the end of the semester I was quite disappointed with my schoolresults, which weren't as great as I thought they would be. That meant that I had quite a bit of resit exams (I had 9 resit exams at the end of August), which meaaans that my summer was not as fun as I thought it was going to be.

However, I started my summer with a really nice trip to Venice, and I absolutely loved it over there (blogpost click here). I spent the rest of my summer studying, but I ended up passing most of my resitexams, which I was sooo happy about.

In September, right before school started, I went on a holiday that was probably the highlight of the year. I went back to the United States, to Louisiana, to go to my hostbrother's wedding. If you didn't know before, I spent a year in the US as an exchange student and the family I stayed with has two sons. I still have frequent contact with my hostfamily, I consider them my second family, so that's why I went to my oldest hostbrother's wedding. I couldn't pass up a real American wedding! ;) I had a great time, not only at the wedding, but also seeing everyone again was really nice. We also spent a couple of days at the beach, which was so lovely.

The day after I got back home, I ran the Color Run, which was so much fun! When school started I decided to change my major - instead of studying Journalism I am now studying Marketing. It wasn't an easy decision, but I am happy with what I chose. I still really like journalism but a degree in Marketing will give me more jobopportunities when I graduate.

In November, a friend of mine from China came to visit Belgium, since she was studying a semester abroad in Rome. We had a great time, and it was so great to see her again!

Even though I did a lot of fun things in 2013, I didn't feel that great. I felt like my life was a bit of a mess, just going from one day to another, which really depressed me and hopefully in 2014 I will be able to get my life a bit more on track. I want to be better at planning things, and not leave everything until the last moment. I want to work harder and maaaybe lose a few pounds. I want to start living, and try to get as much out of this year as I can, instead of being a daydreamer like I usually am.

However, I am very thankful for all the fun things I was able to do in 2013, for all the lovely people that surrounded me this year and I hope 2014 will be even better!

I hope that you all will have a fabulous year in 2014, and I wish you all the love and luck in the world to make 2014 the best year ever!

NOTD: New Year's Eve nails

I just finished painting my nails, so I thought I would do a little NOTD! For the New Year, I went for a basic colour, dark grey, because I am not the biggest fan of extreme glittery nailpolish, even for special occasions. It looks great on other people, but I find it sooo hard to match the colour with my outfit and I just don't think it looks good on me. Also, it's a pain in the butt to get it off afterwards!

The nailpolish I chose to wear this New Year's eve (and day) is the Maybelline Color Show in the shade 'Hit the Road'. It's a dark grey, not yet black, with a tad bit of glitter in it. You can only spot the glitter when you look closely, which is what I reaally like about this nailpolish. It also has a bit of a metallic effect - but nothing too extreme, which is great.

I find it a very classic look, and it nearly goes with every outfit. Maybelline Color Show nailpolishes are quite cheap, yet are quite good in quality. They do tend to chip fast, but it's nothing you couldn't stop with a good base coat! :)

What nailpolish are you going to start the New Year with? I hope you all have an amazing night, and see you in 2014!

Merry Christmas!

This is a picture of my dog in the snow last year. Isn't he cuuuute? :D

I wish you all a very merry Christmas! I hope that you are able to spend some quality time with your family and that you are having a wonderful time.

Much love,

Christmasmarket in Ghent

Last Thursday, my best friend and I went to the Christmasmarket in Ghent. I really like Christmasmarkets, but then again - who doesn't? It was so nice walking around with all the little fairy lights and the little stalls. And since it's Christmas eve tonight (hooray!) I decided to share a few pictures of our little stroll through the Christmas market.

We also got a hot chocolate at one of the stalls, and I chose a chocolate milk made with white chocolate. I never tried a white hot chocolate before, but it was amazing! It's verrrry sweet, so it might not be for everybody, but I really liked it.

I wish I brought my nice DSLR camera to the Christmasmarket, but since we went to a book fair before
that and I didn't want to carry around a huge camera with all my books, I brought my little camera. The quality isn't as good, but oh well. After about half an hour my battery died though, so that's why the picture with the hot chocolate is taken with my ipod (which means even less quality, unfortunately).

Valerie did a blogpost on when she went to the Christmasmarket with her boyfriend so if you want to see that click here

Merry Christmas!

Where have I been?!

I have no idea how to start this blogpost, because my last blogpost on here was in August and I haven't put up a new blogpost since. OopsTo be honest, I am an absolute failure when it comes to blogging and I have absolutely no excuses why I have abandoned my blog the way I did. I thought about just ignoring my blog and you know, just not blog anymore, but last week I opened my gmail account and during the past couple of months I've gotten some new followers and comments. Even though I didn't blog at all! I didn't gain that  many followers, but still - I thought it was so sweet and at the same time I felt really guilty because I was/am a terrible blogger.

Then I realized that I actually really enjoyed writing on here, even though I was terrible at keeping up a schedule. I still read blogs everyday and I miss updating my own blog. So.. I decided to give it a new try. I can't promise that I will be the best blogger in the world but I want to continue this blog even though I abandoned it a couple of months ago. Hello Nathalista 2.0!

This time around I am going to change my content a bit. I still love blogging about beauty products but my life doesn't revolve around beauty 24/7 so I am going to write a bit more about life in general just because I like to. I actually have already planned a couple of blogposts that are going to be up in a few days aaand I am working on a new layout but since I am not a html genius (like for instance my best friend Valerie is) so it might take a while until I'm finished.

Life updates
So where have I been, you might ask? Well.. after my last blogpost in August I had to study for my resit exams (which are at the end of August) and I had little to no social contact for a few weeks because I had quite a couple of resit exams to do, unfortunately. But I really studied hard and my resit exams turned out to be really good!

A very "attractive" picture of me studying Law. Yay! ;)

After my resitexams I celebrated my 21st birthday, which was on September 15th. I don't really feel like I am 21, mentally I still feel like an 18 year old, but oh well. I had a lot of fun on my birthday aaaand even more exciting: the day after my birthday I left on vacation to the USA! I was invited to my hostbrother's wedding (one of the sons of the family I stayed with when I went to the USA a couple of years ago) and ofcourse I didn't want to miss out on a real American wedding! I am going to do a blogpost on my vacation in the USA, kinda like a "Flashback Friday" post, because I had an absolute blast!

From left to right: me; a former exchange student from Sweden that stayed with my hostparents the year after I went home; aaand my very lovely hostparents whose son just got married :)

When I came back from the USA I made an important decision about my studies. I was a secondyear  Journalism student and while I really enjoyed it and got good marks for my journalism class, I decided to change my "major" to Marketing. I just feel like I will have more joboptions when I graduate with a diploma Marketing than a diploma Journalism. Marketing and Journalism are quite simular, so it wasn't that big of a change, and I really enjoy my marketing classes! I also have like eight exemptions from different subjects so I didn't have to start all over. Moreover, I feel like I learned a lot in Journalism and I also met some wonderful people so I don't regret studying Journalism last year.

Anyway, thanks so much for reading this ramble and I hope to see you guys again soon on this blog, because I will be back with another blogpost - and it will definitely not take 6 months! ;)

Orofluido Beauty Elixir - review

OROFLUIDO BEAUTY ELIXIR - 100ml
In my last blogpost I wrote about my "all time favourite skincare product", and this time I am going to write about my aaaallll time favourite hairproduct, which is the Orofluido Beauty elixir. It's a hair oil for all hairtypes, and I absolutely love it. I have really dry hair, so a good hair oil is a must for me!

I use it after I get out of the shower, so I apply it on damp hair. You can also use it on dry hair, but I haven't tried that yet, I always apply it when my hair's still wet because it reduces the drying time, makes my hair softer, easier to comb through and less frizzy/dry.

The product consists of three natural oils, which are argan oil, cyperus oil and linseed oil. According to the packaging, those three together form "an exquisite mixture with a pleasant, silky texture, absorbed rapidly and leaving no residue in the hair."

Can we have a moment for the absolute gorgeous packaging please? I think it looks so luxurious! The only minor thing that I dislike is dumping the product on my hand just like that. I love it when a product comes with a built-in pump, which makes it easier to regulate the amount of product you put in your hair.

Speaking about the amount of product you put in your hair, you really don't need much. If you use too much your hair will become a bit greasy-looking, which is probably not the look you're going for ;). Just a bit to put on the ends of your hair will do!

I kinda forgot what the exact price was, but I think I paid somewhere between 15 and 20 euro ($20-26, £12-17). It's definitely not too bad because a bottle of 100 ml will definitely last you a while.

Another thing I like is the smell of the product, which is vanilla. It's not too strong, but it smells really amazing. It also helps that vanilla is my favourite scent in the entire world, but overall this is a wonderful product and you should definitely check it out!

Have you ever tried Orofluido Beauty Elixir? What is your favourite hair product?
